Queensland Postal History and Australian Numeral Cancellations supplement

Description

Two-thirds of the 60-page Supplement is devoted to Queensland, with additional information being given on most subjects covered in the original work. In particular, a revised tabulation of the datestamps used by the post offices is presented, and there is a considerable amount of new material relating to instructional markings included. The section on Frank Stamps is also extended, based on information supplied by Hans Karman.

The supplementary information for Australian Numeral Cancellations is dominated by new work performed on the New South Wales numerals, notably by Norm Hopson in Sydney. There are also numerous additions to the list of Queensland allocations and “ties”. New information for the other colonies is limited, but it is noteworthy that discoveries in archives have enabled the allocation of several new Victorian “Barred Oval” obliterators – this is a field where there has been virtually no advance for many years.
